Congressman Mike Lawler said on May 20 that the Senate has passed the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, a bipartisan bill intended to expand housing supply and improve affordability nationwide.

The issue of housing affordability continues to affect many families across the country. Lawler said this legislation is designed to address rising costs and limited availability, which have made it harder for people to find affordable homes.

“Today’s passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is a significant step toward addressing the rising cost and limited availability of housing. Hardworking families have been priced out of homeownership, while outdated regulations, supply shortages, and increased competition have made it harder to find an affordable place to live. This legislation takes meaningful action by cutting barriers that slow housing development, encouraging innovative solutions, and helping ensure that working families have a fair shot at buying a home. Homeownership remains one of the clearest pathways to financial stability and opportunity, and we have a responsibility to make that path more accessible for the next generation,” said Congressman Lawler.

Lawler represents New York’s 17th Congressional District. The district includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties just north of New York City. He was rated as one of Congress’s most bipartisan members during his term.

He was also recognized as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress—eighth overall—surpassing dozens of committee chairs.

The broader impact of this legislation could be seen in efforts nationwide aimed at making homeownership more attainable for working families.
