Representative Jerry Nadler, who currently serves New York’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently raised concerns on social media about actions taken by former President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Nadler’s posts focus on federal intervention in local transportation projects, congressional procedures regarding new members, and the legality of executive actions during a government shutdown.
On October 17, 2025, Nadler criticized former President Trump for interfering with a local transit initiative: “Donald Trump has now stooped to trying to block a New York City bus-lane project as part of his personal vendetta against our city and state. I’m demanding answers because I don’t believe for a second that the Trump Administration has the legal authority to halt a locally”.
Later that day, he addressed what he described as inconsistent treatment in the swearing-in process for new members of Congress: “Rep.-elect @AdelitaForAZ was elected nearly a month ago and @SpeakerJohnson has refused to swear her in during pro forma sessions, yet he swore in two Republicans the same way earlier this year! Why? Because she supports the Epstein discharge petition, and Johnson cares more”.
In another post on October 17, Nadler alleged that former President Trump was threatening cuts to public benefits during a potential government shutdown: “It’s blatantly illegal for Trump to unilaterally cut benefits during a shutdown. What should alarm every American, regardless of party, is that the President of the United States is openly threatening to starve his own people to gain political leverage. It’s time for Donald”.
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th District since 1992 after succeeding Ted Weiss. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
