Representative Jerry Nadler, a longtime U.S. Congressman serving New York’s 12th district, posted several updates on social media between August 8 and August 9, 2025, addressing topics ranging from local events to federal government actions.

On August 8, Nadler encouraged participation in a city event by stating: “It’s officially Summer Streets season! Get outside, enjoy the weather, and celebrate the longest route ever tomorrow and next Saturday.” This message highlights ongoing community initiatives in New York City.

Later that day, Nadler criticized former President Donald Trump regarding actions taken by the Department of Justice. He wrote: “Trump weaponizing the power of the Justice Department to investigate @NewYorkStateAG James is despicable. Prosecuting your political opponents is what a dictator does, not what the President of the United States instructs his Administration to do. It’s clear that the lengths”. The statement refers to concerns about potential political interference in legal investigations involving New York State Attorney General Letitia James.

On August 9, Nadler addressed transparency issues related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City. He stated: “ICE refused to let me in when I tried to visit 26 Federal Plaza. It’s clear as day ICE doesn’t want the public to see the true condition of their detention facilities. I applaud this lawsuit to force ICE’s operations out of the shadows and finally hold them accountable. I will”. His comments point toward ongoing debates over oversight and accountability for federal immigration enforcement agencies.

Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district in Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947, Nadler resides in Manhattan and holds degrees from Columbia University and Fordham University.
