Jerry Nadler, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 12th district, recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media platform. Nadler, who has been serving in Congress since 1992 after succeeding Ted Weiss, expressed concerns about immigration oversight and disaster relief policies.
On June 18, 2025, Nadler reported that he and Representative Dan Goldman were prevented by ICE from inspecting a detention center at 26 Federal Plaza. According to Nadler’s tweet, “ICE just blocked @RepDanGoldman and me from inspecting their detention center at 26 Federal Plaza, where migrants are reportedly being forced to sleep on the floor for days at a time.” He emphasized the importance of congressional oversight and transparency for the American public.
Later that day, Nadler commented on disaster relief efforts in another post. He stated: “When American families tragically lose everything in a natural disaster, the last thing they should have to worry about is whether the President’s politics or personal grudges will stand in the way of the help they urgently need.” This statement was directed towards former President Donald Trump’s alleged threats to withhold aid.
In a subsequent tweet shared by Nadler later that evening, he highlighted an article titled “ICE Bars Reps. Goldman and Nadler From Immigrant Detention Area ‘Approaching Capacity’” via THE CITY NY. This further underscores his ongoing concern regarding conditions within immigration facilities.
Nadler has had a long career in public service. Before joining Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, he holds degrees from Columbia University and Fordham University School of Law.
