Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino announced on May 20 that the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1993, the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemorative Coin Act, which he co-led to mark the upcoming anniversary of the September 11 attacks and honor those who lost their lives.
The legislation authorizes commemorative coins that will pay tribute to both the victims and the resilience shown by Americans following September 11. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum will be involved in designing these coins, and proceeds from their sale will help fund ongoing operations and maintenance at the World Trade Center memorial site.
“For Long Island and New York, September 11th is deeply personal,” said Congressman Garbarino. “We will never forget the bravery of the first responders who ran toward danger or the unity this country showed in one of our darkest moments. As we approach the 25th anniversary of the attacks, we have a responsibility to preserve these stories and ensure future generations understand the sacrifices made that day.”
Garbarino spoke on the House floor before lawmakers voted on H.R.1993, highlighting how important it is for Americans to remember what happened on September 11 as its milestone anniversary approaches.
Andrew Garbarino is currently serving in Congress representing New York’s Second District after replacing Peter King in 2021; he previously served in New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2020, according to his official website.
