Holland & Knight announced on May 18 that Shiva Goel has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C., where he will chair the Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) Team. Goel previously served as a partner and co-chair of the wireless practice at Wiley Rein LLP.
The appointment is part of Holland & Knight’s effort to expand its regulatory practice in areas related to telecommunications, emerging technology, and space and satellite sectors. The firm said this move comes at a time when industries are increasingly reliant on new technologies and supporting infrastructure.
“Shiva is known as both a practical strategic advisor and highly effective advocate, and he is a lawyer companies in the TMT sector trust with their highest-stakes regulatory and commercial matters,” said Robert A. Friedman, co-leader of Holland & Knight’s Regulatory Practice. “Shiva’s arrival underscores our commitment to building a market-leading telecommunications, media and technology regulatory practice as our world becomes increasingly dependent on emerging technologies and the physical infrastructure that powers them.”
Goel brings experience from his previous roles as senior advisor at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), legal advisor at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and communications partner at another major Washington law firm. He has advised on national policies related to spectrum, satellite, space issues, mergers regulated by the FCC, rulemakings before federal agencies, transaction reviews, investigations, as well as appellate court challenges.
“I’ve watched Holland & Knight quietly build an elite bench of cross-disciplinary tech professionals, and I’m thrilled to join the Firm at such a transformative moment for the TMT sector,” Goel said. “With the regulatory landscape shifting rapidly, clients need creative and strategic counsel to build new opportunities and push the envelope of innovation. Between its expansive platform, deep government affairs capabilities and dedication to building a best-in-class telecommunications practice, Holland & Knight is the perfect place to serve my clients and grow.”
Goel also serves as an adjunct fellow with CSIS Strategic Technologies Program; he is active in professional associations including membership in the Federal Communications Bar Association.
