Rep. Jerry Nadler, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 12th district, recently took to social media to express his concerns over several pressing issues. Nadler, who has been in office since 1992 after replacing Ted Weiss and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992, shared his thoughts on legislative developments and a tragic event in Washington, D.C.
On May 22, 2025, Rep. Nadler criticized the Republican party for introducing last-minute legislation involving significant health care cuts. He stated that “Republicans just dropped last-minute bill text with tens of billions more in health care cuts—on top of the hundreds of billions already in their plan.” He further highlighted procedural concerns by noting that “They’re scheduling a vote in the dead of night without giving Members a chance to properly read the bill because they don’t” allow sufficient time for review.
In another post made later that day, Nadler addressed a violent incident outside an American Jewish Committee event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., stating “I am monitoring the horrific shooting outside an @ajcglobal event at Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.” He condemned antisemitism and emphasized its potential for causing violence: “Antisemitism has no place in our society and can lead to devastating violence.” He expressed condolences for those affected by saying “As we mourn the lives lost and keep close all those injured or otherwise impacted”.
A subsequent tweet posted on May 22 included only a link without additional commentary from Rep. Nadler: “https://t.co/gzbLPJBKfJ”
Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, Jerry Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
