Haydn Brotschi and men’s 4×800 relay receive First Team All-Ivy honors

Student-athletes from Columbia University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams were recognized with postseason All-Ivy accolades following the completion of the 2026 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships on May 19.

The recognition highlights strong performances by several athletes. Haydn Brotschi received First Team All-Ivy honors after winning the men’s 400-meter event with a time of 45.20, setting a new program record and recording the second-fastest time in Ivy outdoor championship history.

The men’s 4×800-meter relay team, consisting of Nicholas Hayden, Justin Gottlieb, Matt Gatune, and Jacob Van Orden, also earned First Team All-Ivy status after claiming the conference title in a time of 7:21.61. Their performance was noted as the third-fastest mark in Ivy League Outdoor Heps history, sixth fastest in program history, and tenth fastest in NCAA history.

On the women’s side, Caroline Schoen, Grace Carr, Meredith Wolfe, and Lucy Henkel achieved Second Team All-Ivy honors by placing second in the women’s 4×800-meter relay with a time of 8:43.27. Mia Hoskins set a personal best and program record with a hammer throw mark of 56.99 meters to finish runner-up and earn Second Team All-Ivy recognition. In addition to these achievements, Edward Blaha posted a personal-best time of 29:35.56 in the men’s 10,000 meters to finish second overall for Second Team All-Ivy honors.

Jessica Thompson and Matt Gatune were named Academic All-Ivy for their accomplishments both on the track and academically.

With these results concluding their regular season competition schedule, qualified Columbia student-athletes will now prepare for NCAA events beginning May 27 in Lexington, Kentucky.
