U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Wilson Oswaldo Galvan-Lopez, a 25-year-old Guatemalan citizen, pleaded guilty to illegal reentry in the United States. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca in Rochester, New York. Galvan-Lopez received a sentence of time served and was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Testani, who is managing the case, explained that Galvan-Lopez had no legal status in the United States. He was deported to Guatemala in May 2023 but later returned to the United States without authorization. Authorities discovered him on March 24, 2025, during a traffic stop on Orange Street in Rochester.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). The operation seeks to protect communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The investigation leading to this plea and sentencing was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan’s leadership.
