Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has continued efforts to file a judgment against a New York doctor, according to a statement released by Governor Kathy Hochul on July 28, 2025. In her remarks, Hochul addressed the latest legal action taken by Paxton involving an attempt to have the Ulster County Clerk enter the judgment in state court.

“Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has repeatedly tried to file a judgment against a New York doctor and our response has been clear: hell no.

“Today, Paxton filed yet another lawsuit to force the Ulster County Clerk to enter that judgment in state court.

“These extremists are determined to punish a New York doctor for providing safe, legal abortion care. It’s pathetic. It’s dangerous. And it won’t happen on our watch.

“They picked the wrong state and the wrong governor — and I’ll never stop fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom.”

The dispute centers around attempts by Texas officials to enforce out-of-state judgments related to abortion services provided legally in New York. The issue highlights ongoing tensions between states over reproductive rights policies following recent legislative changes across several states.
