Governor Kathy Hochul received a briefing from Metropolitan Transportation Authority leadership and state officials on May 18 regarding the ongoing Long Island Rail Road labor strike. The meeting included updates on the morning commute and discussions about negotiations between the MTA and LIRR unions.
The continued strike has affected rail service, prompting close coordination among state leaders to monitor developments. Hochul was joined by MTA Chair and Chief Executive Officer Janno Lieber, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Acting Commissioner Terry O’Leary, as well as other MTA leaders during the session.
A statement from the Governor’s office said that she met with these officials to receive updates on both commuter impacts and progress in talks with union representatives. The presence of top transportation and emergency management officials highlights efforts to address disruptions caused by the labor action.
Photos documenting the briefing will be made available on Governor Hochul’s Flickr page, according to her office.
As negotiations continue, state officials say they are working to minimize disruptions for commuters while seeking a resolution between all parties involved.
