FOIA Request to SUNY Old Westbury regarding public university FY 2024 employee salaries on December 5, 2025.

Empire State Today, a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to SUNY Old Westbury. The request seeks detailed records concerning employee compensation for all individuals employed by the university during Fiscal Year 2024. This inquiry is made under the New York Freedom of Information Law, N.Y. Pub. Off. Law sec. 84 et seq., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format.

The request specifically asks for records or reports containing several data fields: Fiscal Year, Employee Name, Employee Gender (if recorded), Employee Age or Year of Birth (if not exempt), Employee Date of Birth (if not exempt or if limited to month/year), Employer Name, Employee Title or Position, Employee Department, Employee Hire Date, Employee Compensation Amount (including base pay and any additional pay), Employee Compensation Type (such as salary, hourly wage, stipend, bonus), and Employment Type (full-time or part-time).

Empire State Today acknowledges that not all fields may be present in every record but requests the production of all responsive records regardless of completeness. In cases where portions of a record are deemed exempt from disclosure, they ask that non-exempt portions be released in redacted form rather than withheld entirely.

As members of the media engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public, Empire State Today emphasizes their role in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. They have requested a fee waiver based on their status as media professionals.

The requestor is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies through FOIA requests. More information about this organization can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
