FOIA Request to CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice regarding public university FY 2024 employee salaries on December 5, 2025.

Empire State Today has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice seeking detailed records on employee compensation for Fiscal Year 2024. The request was sent under the New York Freedom of Information Law, N.Y. Pub. Off. Law sec. 84 et seq., and aims to obtain these records in an electronic format.

The requested information includes comprehensive data on all individuals employed by the University during the specified fiscal year, which is typically defined as spanning from September 2024 through July 2025. However, if the University uses different fiscal-year boundaries, Empire State Today has asked that records be produced according to the University’s official definitions with applicable date ranges indicated in their response.

Specifically, Empire State Today seeks records or reports containing various data fields such as Fiscal Year, Employee Name, Gender (if recorded), Age or Year of Birth (if not exempt), Date of Birth (if not exempt or limited to month/year), Employer Name, Title or Position, Department, Hire Date, Compensation Amount (including base pay and any additional pay), Compensation Type (e.g., salary, hourly, stipend, bonus), and Employment Type (full-time or part-time).

Acknowledging that not all fields may exist in every record, Empire State Today requests that all responsive records be produced regardless of whether each field is present. In cases where portions of a record are deemed exempt from disclosure, they have requested that non-exempt portions be released in redacted form rather than withheld entirely.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, Empire State Today emphasizes its role in disseminating information to the public and requests a fee waiver for this FOIA request due to its status as a media professional entity.

Empire State Today’s affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy further underscores its commitment to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through FOIA requests. More information about this coalition can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
