FOIA Request to CUNY Hunter College regarding public university FY 2024 employee salaries on December 5, 2025.
Empire State Today has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to CUNY Hunter College seeking detailed records of employee compensation for the fiscal year 2024. The request was made under the New York Freedom of Information Law, N.Y. Pub. Off. Law sec. 84 et seq., and aims to obtain this information in an electronic format.
The requested records include comprehensive data on all individuals employed by the University during Fiscal Year 2024, which is generally defined as spanning from September 2024 through July 2025. However, if CUNY Hunter College operates under different fiscal-year boundaries, the request asks for records based on the University’s official definitions with applicable date ranges clearly indicated.
Specifically, Empire State Today seeks records or reports containing various data fields such as Fiscal Year, Employee Name, Gender (if recorded), Age or Year of Birth (if not exempt), Date of Birth (if not exempt or limited to month/year), Employer Name, Title or Position, Department, Hire Date, Compensation Amount (including base pay and any additional pay), Compensation Type (e.g., salary, hourly wage), and Employment Type (full-time or part-time).
Acknowledging that not all fields may be present in every record, Empire State Today requests that all responsive records be produced regardless of completeness. In cases where portions of a record are deemed exempt from disclosure, they ask for non-exempt portions to be released in redacted form rather than withheld entirely.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency, Empire State Today believes it qualifies for a fee waiver associated with this FOIA request. The organization is also affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit entity that supports media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies using FOIA and Sunshine Laws.
