The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) announced on May 14 that it will hold a commencement ceremony for its Ranger School Associate of Applied Science graduates at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Clifton-Fine Central School in Star Lake.
The event will honor students completing degrees in forest technology, environmental and natural resources conservation, and land surveying technology. Seventeen students will graduate from the forest technology program, nineteen from environmental and natural resources conservation, and seventeen from land surveying technology.
“Congratulations to the Ranger School graduates on reaching this important milestone and their commitment to rigorous, hands-on learning,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “These graduates exemplify the dedication and skill needed to steward natural resources and lead in their professions.”
The ceremony will also recognize scholars receiving Maple Leaf awards as well as those named to the President’s List, Dean’s List, and inductees into the Forest Technology Honors Society. Guest speakers include Mahoney; Dr. Lindi Quackenbush, provost and vice president of research; Dr. Christopher Nowak, chair of Sustainable Resources Management; Katherine McCarthy from Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; and Thomas Martin representing the Ranger School Alumni Association.
Ranger School students pursue associate degrees while engaging in hands-on learning within a 2,800-acre forest that is part of ESF’s Adirondack campus. The curriculum requires full days with classes scheduled from morning until late afternoon along with laboratory work, field exercises, field trips during the year, and attendance at professional meetings.
The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry manages numerous field stations across New York state as part of its efforts to promote understanding of environmental science through instruction, research-driven solutions to resource issues, investigation projects statewide or beyond its borders according to the official website.
