The Environmental Protection Agency announced on May 14 the launch of a new Permitting Authority Map designed to help streamline project development by clarifying which agencies are responsible for environmental permits.

The tool is intended to benefit members of the International Council of Shopping Centers and other developers by making it easier to identify the correct permitting authority early in their planning process. This clarity may help reduce administrative delays and assist developers in navigating complex environmental review requirements.

According to agency officials, the initiative is part of a broader effort under the Trump administration aimed at reducing regulatory uncertainty. The EPA said this move supports economic growth by making permitting processes more efficient.

The map is expected to be particularly useful for redevelopment, infrastructure, mixed-use, and adaptive reuse projects. By providing clear information about jurisdictional responsibilities, developers can better plan their projects and avoid unnecessary setbacks.

EPA officials said, “the initiative aligns with the Trump administration’s broader focus on reducing regulatory uncertainty and encouraging economic growth through more efficient permitting processes.”
