Elmira man sentenced to over ten years for meth distribution and gun offenses

Albey H. Braster, a 44-year-old resident of Elmira, New York, has been sentenced to 128 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr., according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.

Braster was also ordered to forfeit $1,861 in seized cash.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola stated that Braster distributed more than 166 grams of methamphetamine, four firearms, and over 100 rounds of ammunition to an undercover investigator with the New York State Police on multiple occasions between December 4, 2023, and January 18, 2024.

Braster’s arrest took place on January 18, 2024. Law enforcement officials from the ATF Violent Crime Task Force, New York State Police, and Elmira Police Department executed a search warrant at his Columbia Street residence at that time. They recovered approximately 2.4 grams of methamphetamine and $1,861 in cash during the search.

The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Violent Crimes Task Force under Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan DiGirolamo; the New York State Police under Major Kevin Sucher; and the Elmira Police Department under Chief Kristen Thorne.

“This sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Violent Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan DiGirolamo, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Kevin Sucher, and the Elmira Police Department, under the direction of Chief Kristen Thorne,” said officials in a statement.
