NYGOP Chair Ed Cox has issued a statement criticizing legislation he claims is intended to allow the Governor of New York to gain partisan advantage in scheduling special elections for both the House of Representatives and the State Legislature.

Cox describes the move as an “anti-democratic power grab by Albany Democrats, drunk on the power of one-party rule, to set elections whenever it benefits them, even if that means New Yorkers go without due representation in government.”

He further accuses Democrats of trying to push through this legislation quietly by posting it on a Friday evening, asserting they hoped “New Yorkers aren’t paying attention to this electoral heist.” Cox emphasized that Republicans at both state and federal levels would employ all available resources to oppose what he terms as corruption.

Cox called upon the Department of Justice to initiate an investigation into what he perceives as a subversion of democracy and vowed legal action, stating, “we’ll see the Democrats in court.”
