Jasson Domínguez has increased his rehabilitation activities following a left shoulder injury sustained on May 7, but there is still no set timetable for his return to the New York Yankees lineup, according to a May 21 report.
The update comes as Domínguez continues recovering from an outfield collision that resulted in his placement on the 10-day injured list. The situation matters for the Yankees as Domínguez was expected to receive more playing time due to other injuries on the roster and remains one of their most promising young players.
Domínguez recently received a cortisone injection and advanced from dry swings and pool work to hitting off a tee for the first time since getting hurt. “There’s definitely been some improvement, but I can’t give you a time right now,” Domínguez said. “It’s getting better. I’ve been working at it. It’s a day-by-day thing, trying to get the motion back and trying to get the shoulder in a good position.” He described watching video of his highlight-reel catch against Texas that led to his injury: “It was scary to see how I hit the wall, but I definitely watched it. It was a great catch.”
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the incident that Domínguez would be out at least “a few weeks” due to the violent nature of his collision with Yankee Stadium’s left field wall while making an acrobatic play. Boone confirmed all concussion tests were negative and called concussion protocol procedures precautionary.
Domínguez has faced several setbacks early in his career, including Tommy John surgery after just eight games following his major league debut in 2023. Despite losing playing time last season due partly to Trent Grisham’s emergence, he remained positive within the clubhouse. “Gosh, he’s just such a good kid,” Boone said. “There’s a joy he walks to every day, no matter what’s going on. He’s very consistent in who he is. They love him in there.”
