The Cornell lightweight rowing team concluded its competition at the Eastern Sprints Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond with a fifth-place finish in the Varsity Eight (V8) Grand Final and a second-place result in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8) Petite Final, according to a May 17 announcement.
This event marks an important moment for collegiate rowing teams as they test their performance against some of the top programs. The results reflect both strong efforts and close margins among leading crews.
Cornell’s V8 boat secured second place in its morning heat with a time of 5:51.269, advancing to the Grand Final after narrowly trailing Penn and finishing ahead of MIT, Georgetown, and Columbia. In the afternoon Grand Final, Cornell placed fifth with a time of 5:51.951. The race was highly competitive, with less than two-tenths of a second separating third through fifth places.
In other events, Cornell’s 2V8 crew began their day by finishing fifth in their heat with a time of 6:05.446 against Penn, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Yale. Later that day in the Petite Final, they finished second with a time of 6:16.837 behind Columbia but ahead of Yale and MIT.
Cornell Big Red Men’s Rowing represents Cornell University as part of NCAA Division I competition within both the Ivy League and Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges according to the official website. The team is based in Ithaca, New York and functions as one of Cornell’s collegiate sports teams according to the official website.
