Congressman Nick Langworthy said on April 30 that he was pleased the House passed the Senate Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill, effectively ending what he called a record-breaking government shutdown.
Langworthy said the passage of this bill is important for national security and brings an end to a period he described as damaging for Congress. “When I got to Washington this week, my first order of business was to send a letter to the Speaker urging him to pass the Senate DHS bill, and I’m pleased that he has heeded my call. The nation is looking for leadership, and we have no more important duty than ensuring the safety and security of our homeland. I’m thankful we can finally put this ordeal behind us, but this record-breaking shutdown is a stain on our institution and as I have maintained throughout my tenure, government shutdowns are wrong. I’m grateful to the more than 260,000 men and women of the department who have maintained their professionalism and dedication to the American people. Now, we must move our attention to the reconciliation process where we will ensure our immigration enforcement is fully funded and operational. The American people deserve less score-keeping and political theatrics and more results.”
Langworthy’s work in Congress includes focusing on constituent service, supporting resource allocation for communities in his district, championing airline safety reforms in recent legislation such as the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, and drawing upon his roots in Jamestown, New York in his public service approach according to the official website.
He won election to represent New York’s 23rd Congressional District in 2022 after attending Pine Valley Central School in Jamestown. Langworthy lives with his wife Erin and their two children according to information from his official website.
The conclusion of this government shutdown allows lawmakers like Langworthy to focus on further legislative priorities such as immigration enforcement funding.
