Columbia track and field prepares for Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Princeton

The Columbia track and field team announced on May 15 that it has completed its 2026 outdoor regular season and is set to compete in the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Princeton University. The event will take place over two days at Weaver Stadium, beginning with the women’s pole vault, men’s long jump, and men’s hammer throw at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The championships are significant as they mark the culmination of the outdoor season for Ivy League athletes. Fans can access up-to-date information about tickets, media credentials, and more through the Ivy League’s championship central website. Each day of competition will be streamed live via ESPN+, with additional coverage available on social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.

In their most recent outing at the Larry Ellis Invitational, Columbia athletes recorded nine top-5 finishes and set one school record. Senior Lucy Henkel achieved a program-record time of 2:04.11 in the women’s 800 meters to finish fourth. Sophomore Kylie Castillo won the women’s 200 meters with a time of 24.19 seconds and placed sixth in the 400 meters. Other notable performances included Haydn Brotschi winning the men’s 400 meters in 46.05 seconds and placing fourth in the men’s 200 meters.

Looking back at last year’s Heptagonal Championships, Columbia medaled in seven events. The men finished fifth overall with 56 points while the women placed eighth with 22 points. Joshua Adams earned a silver medal in the long jump, Rory Clare claimed silver in Sunday’s women’s 1500 meters, and Haydn Brotschi took second place in the men’s 400 meters.

Other achievements included Madison Williams finishing sixth in women’s long jump, Jessica Thomspon setting a new program record by taking seventh place in pole vault with a mark of 3.92 meters, and Lucy Markow establishing a first-year record in pole vault as well.
