Columbia baseball lost to top-seeded Yale, 12-3, in the opening round of the Ivy League Tournament on May 15 at George H.W. Bush Field.
The result means Columbia (15-24-1) will play No. 2 Penn in an elimination game scheduled for Saturday, May 16, with first pitch set for noon on ESPN+.
Jack Kail led Columbia by going 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Anthony Temesvary contributed two doubles during the defeat. The Lions took an early lead after Kail’s leadoff single and Temesvary’s double put runners in scoring position; Jackson Brewer then drove in the game’s first run with a groundout.
Yale (28-13-1) responded quickly in the bottom of the first inning by capitalizing on two errors during one play to take a 2-1 lead. Chris DiPrima grounded behind third base and reached home after consecutive overthrows allowed both him and another runner to score. Columbia tied it again at 2-2 in the third inning when Temesvary doubled off the left field wall and later scored on Cole Fellows’ base hit.
Yale regained control soon after as Jack Dauer singled through the left side following a hit batter and walk, putting Yale ahead once more. In subsequent innings, DiPrima extended Yale’s advantage with a two-out bases-clearing double to center field. Despite several threats from Columbia—including multiple runners reaching scoring position—Yale starter Jack Ohman worked out of jams before reliever Teo Spadaccini threw three perfect innings to close out the game for Yale.
Thomas Santana took his fifth loss of the season for Columbia after allowing four earned runs over just under four innings pitched. Ohman picked up his fifth win by scattering seven hits across five innings while giving up only two runs.
