Columbia baseball was eliminated from the Ivy League Tournament after a 4-2 loss to Brown on May 17 at George H.W. Bush Field.
The game ended Columbia’s season, with the team finishing with a record of 16-25-1. Brown advanced to face top-seeded Yale in the championship round. Columbia had a chance to take the lead in the ninth inning, but Brown pitcher Christian Keel forced a game-ending groundout.
Brown took an early lead in the first inning after loading the bases and drawing a walk. Columbia’s Owen Estabrook picked off a runner at third base to limit further damage. In the fifth inning, Columbia threatened when runners reached the corners with one out, but Hunter Snyder was thrown out at home plate following Jack Kail’s fly ball.
Will Harrigan pitched four scoreless innings for Columbia before Brown extended its lead in the sixth inning with two hits and an intentional walk that loaded the bases. Christian Butera then hit a two-run single, and another run scored on a sacrifice fly, making it 4-0 for Brown.
Columbia attempted comebacks late in the game. In both the seventh and ninth innings, they put runners on base but were unable to overcome Brown’s pitching and defense. Charlie Slabaugh contributed an RBI single in the ninth while Tate Vogler added another run-scoring play before Brown secured victory.
Cole Fellows went 2-for-4 and Snyder also had two hits for Columbia in their final game of the season.
