U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Edwuin Rogelio Lozano, a 46-year-old Colombian citizen, pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. Lozano was sentenced to time served and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fauzia K. Mattingly, who managed the case, explained that Lozano lacked legal status in the United States. He had been removed from the country in December 2020 following an order of removal. On April 6, 2025, he was discovered in Erie County as a passenger in a vehicle encountered by Department of Homeland Security agents at a local hotel. Lozano admitted his illegal presence in the United States.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, which utilizes resources from the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.

The plea and sentencing followed an investigation by U.S. Border Patrol led by Patrol Agent in Charge Martin B. Coombs.
