Jazz Chisholm Jr. led the New York Yankees to a 12-4 win over the Houston Astros on April 25, driving in four runs and scoring three times. The victory marked the Yankees’ seventh consecutive win.
The game was significant for both Chisholm and the team. Chisholm, who had struggled earlier in the season, recorded multiple hits for the third time in four games and has now hit home runs in back-to-back contests. His recent performance has raised his batting average and contributed to New York’s strong start.
“I feel like me again,” Chisholm said after finishing 3-for-4 with a walk. “It feels good to know that when you swing the bat, you know you’re going to make good contact and hit it off the barrel.”
Manager Aaron Boone said he sees improvement in Chisholm’s approach at the plate: “I feel like along the way over the last few weeks, there’s been a day where he’s started to see like, ‘OK, there he is,’ and then he’d fall back for a day or two. But now [it’s] back-to-back days where he’s had some really good swings.”
Ryan McMahon, Ben Rice, and José Caballero also homered for New York as they collected 13 hits overall. Will Warren pitched six innings for his third win of the season.
Chisholm said team chemistry is playing a role: “It makes it feel much better going up there yourself when your whole team is out there and you all believe that every time somebody goes in the box, everybody’s going to get a hit… You always say hitting is contagious, and when everybody’s doing it, you can’t get enough of it.”
Reflecting on his goals despite early challenges this season—two home runs so far compared with last year’s thirty—Chisholm remained optimistic: “The season just started. We’re not even a full month in,” he said. “[I’m] starting to feel good at the right time. [30-30] is just normal.”
