Chief Judge Wolford appoints Merit Selection Panel for magistrate judge vacancy

Chief Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York has appointed a Merit Selection Panel to review applications for a magistrate judge vacancy, according to a May 29 announcement. The appointment was made pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 631 and the Regulations of the Judicial Conference of the United States.

The panel is tasked with reviewing all applications submitted for the vacant magistrate judge position and will provide recommendations to the court within 90 days.

The Merit Selection Panel includes Susan C. Roney, Esq., who serves as chair, along with Jody E. Briandi, Esq.; Joseph S. Brown, Esq.; Cheryl Meyers Buth, Esq.; Vincent E. Doyle III, Esq.; Christine Farrow, Ph.D., a non-lawyer; Terrance P. Flynn, Esq.; Laurie Lisowski-Frey, a non-lawyer; John J. Hurley, Esq.; Jason E. Markel, Esq.; Anthony M. Masiello, a non-lawyer; Brian M. Melber, Esq.; Nancy H. Nielsen, M.D., Ph.D., a non-lawyer; Molly Roach, Esq.; and John G. Schmidt Jr., Esq.

An Administrative Order outlining both the membership and duties of this panel is available for public review in person at the Office of the Clerk in both Rochester’s Kenneth B. Keating United States Courthouse and Buffalo’s Robert H. Jackson United States Courthouse.

The court will await recommendations from this panel before proceeding with further steps regarding filling the magistrate judge vacancy.
