The Buffalo Bills announced on May 12 the signing of tight end Shane Zylstra to a one-year contract.
The addition of Zylstra provides the team with more depth at the tight end position as they prepare for the upcoming season. The move comes after Zylstra spent five seasons with Detroit, where he played in 35 games and recorded 18 catches for 136 yards and four touchdowns.
Zylstra, who is from Spicer, Minnesota, played five collegiate seasons at Division II school Minnesota State. He was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 and First-team All-American in 2019. After going undrafted in 2021, he initially signed with the Minnesota Vikings but was waived before the start of that season. He then joined Detroit prior to Week 1 of the same year.
According to the team announcement, “Zylstra will now continue his NFL career in Buffalo; he will wear No. 48.” In a corresponding roster move, kicker Maddux Trujillo was released by the Bills.
The signing reflects ongoing adjustments as teams finalize their rosters ahead of training camp.
