Lloyd Smith, a 26-year-old resident of Amherst, New York, has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for distributing cocaine and fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo following Smith’s conviction.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna Duncan, Smith communicated via Snapchat and text message with an individual referred to as K.W. about purchasing narcotics on May 27 and 28, 2023. On May 28, Smith met with K.W. and another person identified as J.D., selling them the drugs.
After using the substances provided by Smith, both J.D. and K.W. lost consciousness while inside a vehicle. Smith carried J.D. out of his own vehicle into J.D.’s car before leaving him there; K.W. also became unconscious at that time.
Amherst Police responded after receiving a 911 call from a bystander who discovered the scene of the overdose and found both individuals unresponsive in a vehicle. Both survived after emergency intervention.
Police recovered two baggies from K.W.’s pocket which tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl; these were determined to have been purchased from Smith.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by the Amherst Police Department under Chief Scott Chamberlin and the Drug Enforcement Administration led by Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam of the New York Enforcement Division.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo stated: “Lloyd Smith…was convicted of distribution of cocaine and fentanyl, [and] was sentenced to serve 108 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.”
