Willie Green, a 42-year-old resident of Albany, has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. This decision follows his previous guilty plea where he admitted to having a loaded pistol on January 1, 2022, despite being prohibited due to a prior felony conviction. Green’s criminal history includes a murder conviction from 2024, secured by the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. The new sentence will be served consecutively to his current state sentence of 25 years to life.
United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III expressed strong views on the case: “Willie Green cannot serve enough prison time for the crimes he’s committed. He should never get out, and if he is granted parole by New York State, he will be immediately taken to federal prison to start serving his term of imprisonment in this case. Albany is safer if this murderer stays locked up for good.”
Bryan Miller, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF’s New York Field Division, commented on the outcome: “This sentence reflects our unwavering commitment to holding violent offenders accountable—especially those who continue to possess firearms despite felony convictions. This individual not only admitted to carrying a loaded firearm illegally, but he is also serving a 25-to-life sentence for murder. His actions represent the very threat to public safety that ATF and our law enforcement partners work tirelessly to prevent.”
The sentencing was conducted by Senior United States District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr., who also imposed a three-year term of supervised release following Green’s federal imprisonment.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with assistance from the Albany Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa prosecuted the case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative focused on reducing violent crime through community collaboration and strategic enforcement efforts.
