A mansion in the East Bay sold for $21.5 million, nearing the all-time price record for Contra Costa County, according to a May 20 report by the San Francisco Chronicle.
The sale of Fieldhaven Estate reflects ongoing demand for luxury properties in the region, even as prices reach historic highs. The property was on the market for more than two years and saw its asking price reduced by nearly $14 million from its original listing of $35 million in 2023.
Fieldhaven Estate is located at 7 Country Oak Lane in Alamo and spans 21 acres. It features a main mansion with ten bedrooms and twenty-two bathrooms, along with two guest houses that account for additional bedrooms. Built in 2012 by David Duffield, co-founder of PeopleSoft and Workday, at an estimated cost of $135 million, it first listed in 2016 for $39 million but did not sell at that time. J. Taylor Crandall purchased it from Duffield in 2020 for $19 million and invested another $7 million into upgrades. Marilee Headen, a Compass agent who managed both this sale and the previous one, said the new owners are an East Bay family likely to use the estate to host gatherings.
The estate includes amenities such as a geese fountain from the nineteenth century, a tree house connected to a seventy-five-foot rope suspension bridge, an aviary, a garage capable of housing twenty vehicles, as well as facilities like a gym, movie theater, outdoor kitchen and wine cellar.
Luxury home sales remain strong across San Francisco and surrounding areas amid increasing demand driven by workers entering the artificial intelligence sector. This has led to higher home prices and limited supply of mansions throughout much of the Bay Area. Headen said: “The overall luxury market in the East Bay is extremely strong,” adding agents are “seeing an influx of money from San Francisco and Silicon Valley, and it has to do with AI.” She also said buyers are attracted by good schools and green scenery found in parts of East Bay compared with higher-priced areas such as Atherton or Woodside.
